What was played
This Games Day held in the height of summer had a slight downturn in attendance, but no shortage of gaming going on. There were even some comments that the lower numbers were a little more comfortable in the Cal-Fed room. I wouldn't know--I wasn't there. Yep, I had to miss my first Games Day for perhaps the same reason a few other regulars didn't make it...summertime family vacations. So, I have a bit less to say about this one, but we still have a variety of comments posted to the SoCal-Boardgamers mailing list, linked below.
Thanks to Scott, Fen, Dave, and Jon for keeping everything running smooth without me (sniff!). Thanks also to Ryan Wheeler for stepping in as digital photographer.

It's a flicking game. It's a stock market game. It's two, two, two games in one! It's Cairo, played by Kevin & Mike B.

Mike Meckler, Erin, DaveO, and Greg are building the ancient city of Medina...

...while Mike B., Kevin, Scott, Adam play Taj Mahal.

Patrick and Chad W. play Crokinole, a Games Day favorite, now made speedier through the use of that magic powder from Germany. (Ryan told me the powder wasn't so visible in normal light--but it's showing up here due to the angle and the flash.)

Chad P. and Erik are conquering the world, Vinci-style

Dave Arnott normally plays the role of the 'lovely assistant' for the Prize Table...

...but this time that's Patrica Rigby, while Dave calls out the names...

...and the huddled masses wait to hear their name! :-)

Scott, Dave A., Kevin, and Mike Mayer play Tyros.

Aaron, Allen, Mike Meckler, and Adam are producers?... casting directors?... something movie-ish in Traumfabrik

Robert and Kasia in what's become another Games Day favorite dexterity game, Tennis Masters

Dexterity games! They're everywhere! Here's a real classic, the soccer game Subbuteo. Uniforms are optional. :-) Dave B's taking his shot against Wayne.

Which one of those cool, interlinked abstract strategy game are Adam and Mike Meckler playing? It's Zertz, right? I get them mixed up. All of those funky monosyllabic names.

Funkenschlag, the world's most carefully spelled game, according to Mike Mayer. (Did you catch his review in The Game Report?) Here played by Debby, Erik, Jonathan, Paul, and chad P..

Puerto Rico, played by Erin, Jason, Andy and missing photographer Ryan.

Scott's manning the sign-in table, with Patricia and Andy standing by.

Allen and Adam compete to build the tower of Babel.

Patricia and Patrick listen to the rules for Autoscooter.

The hat-conscious Westside Spielers cut a trail through Goldland.

Aaron, Dave, DaveO, and Greg do a different sort of exploring, bidding to be the patron for Pizzaro & Co.

Fen explains the finer points of Crokinole strategy to Mike Mayer(?).

Jonathan and others build their railroad from the Cape of Good Hope to Cairo (Von Kap bis Kairo)

Matt wheels and deals for Dragon's Gold

Release the hounds! It's Tally Ho! with Dave A. and Danny while ?? watches.

Bruce, Greg, and Daniel set up for the Durch Die Wuste tournament

Ah, the Werewolf game is about to start! Greg, Erin, and Alan sit by as moderator Dave goes to to back of the room to dim the lights. Spoooooky!

The accusations fly. Ryan points out a werewolf. (Or does he?)

Put it to a vote! Someone's gotta pay for the hideous crime!

I'm convinced these guys really are werewolves! Yikes!
